Straw Bale Building - National Trust« Back
The National Trust approached us to rebuild fire damaged cob and brick cottages in a sensitive Conservation Area of Dorset, which was almost entirely lost and only the bricks reusable. We designed a replacement built in straw bales, to faithfully recreate the appearance of the original cob walls cottages but raise the thermal performance of the buildings to the maximum possible, green credentials supplemented by the use of an air source heat pump for hot water demand. Contractors DCRS kindly allowed us to experience building in straw bales as part of an office day out.
